What you are looking at
A marker only moves when an aircraft did
FlightStatus is built on open, community-run ADS-B data. When a receiver is hearing the aircraft you get its real position, with the age of the reading beside it. When nobody is hearing it — which is normal over oceans and remote regions — you get the route and a plain sentence saying so.
Nothing is animated along a route to imply movement that has not been observed.
